Eastern Symbols
THE MYSTERIOUS EAST, with its more than
5,000 year old Vedic culture, has much to offer the West. Many of their age-old
herbal formulas have been proven to have dramatic effects on improving health
without the side effects of our Western pharmaceuticals. Eastern spiritual
practices and philosophies are having an increasing impact on our own culture
and world view. The recent revival of ancient meditation techniques is gaining
popularity in the West. Significant bodies of scientific research are proving
profound health benefits from these ancient practices and herbal formulas. That
may help account for the practitioners empirical reports of finding inner
peace and fulfillment.
We
are fortunate on occasion to be commissioned to create stained glass windows
for this time-honored traditional culture. There is no better way to express
the religious heritage and culture of ancient India, whose goal is
enlightenment, than through the medium of light. As "Surya", the sun,
moves across the eternal sky, each day new light is transformed by the stained
glass window into art radiating through the inner space of the installations
environment into the viewers eyes, mind, and soul.
Left: Lakshmi represents wealth, fortune, power, beauty, and abundance. She is
enchantingly beautiful draped in a red sari, standing on a lotus blossom and
holding lotus flowers in her hands. The white elephant, symbol of rain clouds
showers her with water to bring life to parched land.
